Ok here's the deal...
(1) I have my pc running XP Pro...
(2) I have a PC at a bowling center running XP Home
I need to establish a connection to send files to the pc at the bowling center daily. (Not via email. I need total control.
PC Anywhere could do it, but costs $199.99
Remote desktop will not work with the XP Home editions.
Any thoughts?

If the bowling centre has broadband, set up an ftp server on it.
There's always next season.

What I would do is register a URL and get hosting with it. Have some FTP software on both machines and simply use the space to upload/ download files.
JAck may have a more suitable way, though

You can get some free software that basically makes your PC an ftp server. You can then get a free ftp program, and log onto the alley PC from your home PC anytime you want. This is by far the cheapest way of doing it, although it will entail keeping the bowling alley PC on whenever you would need to transfer data. The only cost would be the electricity of keeping the PC running (if you choose to have it on 24 hours a day) as the ftp server program is free (and very good, I used to use it to get school work from home if I'd forgotten to take it to school) and the ftp software to connect to the server will also be free.

Free, now that's what I am talking about. Would I have to register anything or jsut logon to the ftp server.
Power is not the issue, it is the menu board of current events that would be running anyway.
Any link to the server software?
Thanks Jack and Disco

Nope. Simply setup the software on the alley PC, write down the account info, then use the account at home to login to it. The place where I found it is currently down (its on modblog and their doing maintenance at the moment) but as soon as its back up, I'll post the link.

if you have xp pro on your home machine you could just use the build in ftp server in iis...
ooor you could share the folders you need to access with regular windows sharing, and then access your home computers share folder with
\\your ip
or you could buy a sharepoint server license and set it up on your home computer

Just a guy, in a world.
