Here it is, from the mystery man himself.
Thanks alot, Jeff!
******
1.) For the record, what's your real name, where are you from and how old are you?
My real name is Jeff Stevens. I am originally from Clarksville, Tennessee, but my father was career military and we moved about frequently. I’ll hit the big 3-0 in June.
2.) Are you of the married persuasion or are you an eligible bachelor? Any children?
Uhm……can I let it out now? ? I AM married, to one of DL’s newest, Kristin. Revealing this, off course, now forces me to shed my iconoclastic image. And I guess I’ll have to not use that “wealthy young man about town” description of myself. We have one child. His name is Parker and is 2 1/2 years old.
3.) Describe yourself in 3 five letter words or less. Please.
Quite possibly the hardest question here. Kooky, zippy, and jokey.
4.) Where do you work? Do you enjoy it? Is this where you thought you would be oh say, 6-8 years ago?
I work as a webmaster for the University of Florida. It has its moments, but routinely it is just full of dull routine. Though the benefits are terrific. It definitely isn’t where I saw myself back then, but during school I really didn’t study formal art or graphic design and it has been a wonderful location to hone my abilities and to learn.
5.) What section of the bookstore would we find you lurking in?
Either in the Science Fiction / Fantasy section or in the photography section.
6.) How did you get started on the internet?
After college, I found myself fully qualified to work as an assistant manager for a fast food restaurant that required my on numerous times to stay until 4am. Over a year, I graduated to French fries and come within inches of becoming a co-manager, when I finally decided it was time to leave. I think the time they wanted me to come in during a category 4 hurricane might have had something to do with it, or the fact that I would be working the graveyard shift on the Millennium New Year. I then took a temp job out at a battery manufacturer. When that position was phased out, I convinced the marketing department they needed a website upgrade and I jumped over forthwith.
7.) What type of music do you listen to most? Bon Jovi, perhaps?
I have extremely eclectic and broad music tastes, and listen to variety of things. I’m not an avid fan of electronica, jazz, or gangsta rap, though a do own a little of all three. I really like film scores and show tunes. Hmmm. I’d say my favorite performers would be North, Pet Shop Boys, Right Said Fred, ABBA, Eagles, Elton John, Billy Joel, any song written by Jim Steinem, and any theme from a James Bond Film.
8.) Do you play any computer games?
Not so much anymore. I simply haven’t had the time. The last computer games I played extensively would be LucasArts X-Wing and TIE fighter games. I play older Nintendo games far more often, as Parker like Mario (I have an extensive Mega Man collection).
9.) What is your favorite type of food?
Fried Pork Chops, with a side of rice and brown gravy, and slightly salted yellow squash, with a glass of ice cold sweet ice tea. Yum.
10.) How did you come to be a member of DL?
I used to hang around as Designs By Mark (there is a link from UF Computing Resources to the site). When it went away, I found myself doggedly hunting it down. After lurking for a while I decided to make my presence known.
11.) What are your favorite and least favorite things about DL?
This is the kind of question that can get you voted off the island. My favorite thing about DL is seeing the work of others and seeing other’s creativity at work.
My least favorite thing? Eye Jewelry.
Also, I dislike personal politics. I dislike how boards get rocked by personal issues and agendas. Granted, I rarely see that kind of thing here at DL, but it does happen every now and then.
12.) If you could meet anyone past or present, who would it be and why?
At this moment, I think it would be Katherine Hepburn. I find her wit, style, and no-nonsense attitude amazing and I think she would be a blast to talk to.
13.) Typical Saturday morning: Where do we find you?
At the computer, balancing a cup of yogurt, a half-eaten banana, a cup of raisins, and a glass of milk, while attempting to do what-not while keeping Parker entertained.
14.) What's your biggest pet peeve?
Smoking. Gah. I know its cliche, so sue me.
15.) What things do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I like to doodle, read, organize my mp3 music collection, bicycle, and take photos.
16.) What is one thing you know now that you wish you would've known when you were a teenager?
I would have liked to have known more about finances. I was an avid and ravenous comic book collector in my youth and read many different titles. Looking back today, I am amazed as to how much money I spent in doing so and how much I could do with that money today, if I still had it.
17.) You've been the voice of reason many times on political issues - are you active in politics or do you prefer to stay out of it until discussions come up?
I actually am pretty quiet with most people on my political issues. I guess it goes back to my comment abut flare-ups in chat rooms – I avoid the argument unless it is absolutely necessary. My supervisor is a died-in-wool Howard Dean/Kusenech supporter, and she shares the Bush-is-Hitler argument that I know I would never counter in an argument. Her view is set, so why challenge it. Similarly, when I hear people with ultra-right-wing stances I also remain silent.
I’d like to think I remain moderate on most issues, though Kristin would be quick to point out I am shifting more right with every year (doesn’t help that our local radio station only plays conservative-oriented people). But I think I’m starting to see the light – I’ve even been able to start hearing spin in the “No-Spin” Zone ?.
18.) If you won the lottery, and provided the government didn't steal it all under the name of taxes, what would you purchase with it?
Even with taxes, I’d still end up with half. My first uses would be pedestrian – retirement accounts, new house, pay off bills and debts, and tuition money for kids. Then I’d get a nice home theater and a hybrid fuel car. I also have an inkling I would go to a used CD store and redeem any of my former ways by buying physical copies of all of my music collection.
But first and foremost would by a one or two month vacation in New Zealand.
19.) Do you have any web sites online that we could visit?
My wife and I have a personal site http://www.sepiamoons.com. Essentially we use it to show family and friends Parker’s photos, blog, and tell people what to buy for us. Nothing gets updated here very often as we just don’t get a chance to do it, save the blog. I know people read it, cause they talk to use about it, but no one ever seems to leave comments.
I do have three sub-sites up, but those are in various stages of being updated as we speak; our freelance site, http://union.sepiamoons.com; my portfolio site, http://union.sepiamoons.com/panopolis, and my photography site, http://photoworks.sepiamoons.com/. I’m still working on the enlargements for the latter as was suggested by numerous people last time I posted it at DL.
20.) What is your favorite type of design style?
I like stylized and abstract for logo design with bright pantone colors.. I like middle-eastern and Indian patterns in backgrounds, and art-deco industrial black and white design. I don’t know if that fits into a particular style, though.
21.) Do you have any unique and fascinating personality traits or anything that you'd like to share?
I can’t think of anything unique or fascinating about my personality. I’m generally a stand-offish person with people I’ve just met, and take time to acclimate before I can begin conversations with them. I might defer this question to my wife ?
