--- Is Tom Sommer your real name?
Yes, Tom Sommer Jensen... Jensen is a *very* common last name in Denmark, so I normally just strip it.
---How old are you?
18, 19 in a few months
---Any steady girlfriend?
Nope
--- At what age did you get interested in coding?
I think I was about 13 when I started HTML coding
--- Is coding the only thing you’re really interested in?
I'm interested in graphics to a certain point, I'm not good at creating fast and good-looking graphics, if I spend enough time on a website it will end up looking good, it's all in the details.
I just can't pop out a great website, like Robouk, it takes a few months for me.
I'm really interested in the Open Source community; I love how it works… how it's structured and the terms used in it, I’m also involved in a few projects which takes up some of my time.
Of cause I’m also interested in computers in general, Linux, hardware, servers etc.
---I know of two websites you run.(TSN and Dreamcoder) Do you have any more?
Nope, I have a few product homepages, that’s about it
--- Is this a business or still just a hobby?
Just a hobby, I have no plans on making a business out of it, it would bore me to death.
---Do you frequent any other online forums?
Yes, 2 or 3… won’t mention them… I’m an administrator on two *proud*.
--- Were you born and raised in Denmark?
Yes
--- Ever have any desire to get to a warmer climate?
Every bloody day... It’s raining like mad right now; we’ve had good weather up till now. Good summers, but very VERY wet and cold winters… shesh.
--- What’s this between you and Rachel? She’s known as Mrs. Sommer on this board.
I can't remember how it started, after Rachel asked me to rejoin DBM we just worked well together and so we started flirting… I’ve never met her, I’ve never talked to her on the phone, but she’s lovely none the less…
She started calling herself Mrs. Sommer, which I’m still honoured by.
---About how much of your time did you spend designing/coding Designers Lounge?
Robouk sent me a .psd file and then I got started, took me a week to get it done, I still have some stuff I would like to finish, since I'm a perfectionist.
---How much time do you think you spend online in a 24 hour period?
Spend online? I’m online 24/7/356, my current uptime is 80 days without a reboot..
If you mean the amount of time I spend in front of the computer, it’s about 17 hours.. You have to remember I use my laptop at school too, (yes, I know…. I’m a geek)
--- Why don’t we see any pictures of you?
Hehe, well... I guess I'm just shy, I’m not ugly… I’m not just interested in everyone judging me because of my appearance… Just look at Nicole (Sorry Nicole, I’m just kidding)
--- What are your goals in life? Want to be an engineer….etc?
I don't really know, I know that I want to work with computers in some way, but the jury is still out on that one.
--- What’s the job market like in Denmark?
The computer business is very saturated, sadly.
--- Are you working now?
Nope, no time… I'm in school, which I will be done with in 2 months. After that I think I'll find a job for a year before I continue studying, sick of school.
--- Have you ever been outside of Denmark?
Been to England, France, Germany, Austria, Barcelona, Italy, Prague
--- Are you the family computer guru?
Yes
--- How would you rate the school system in Denmark? (I’ve always been amazed how many Scandinavians speak excellent English.)
The reason why many Scandinavians speak English is because of TV... I could speak excellent English even in the 6th grade because of Cartoon Network, our TV-stations are full of English/American TV-shows, they are all a few months behind the US schedule, but rocks none the less
The school system is not bad, not at all... It's nothing like the one in the US, totally different structure; even the grade system is different...
We even get 1300kr (£200) a month for going to school (you have to be over 18), most Americans can’t understand that
I’m currently in a sort of Technical High-School, we all have laptops - 2/3 of my classmates are geeks, its cool… No girls though, which allows us to have some interesting conversations *nods*
--- Do you have a favorite band/vocal group?
Not really a favourite one which I follow and really love.
My music taste is very varied, right now I listen to Eminem, Linking Park and some classical stuff, but it could change at any time.
--- Favorite movie?
Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring
--- Are there fast food places in Denmark? Burger King, McDonalds,..etc.
Oh yes, we have them all... and lots of them
--- Any interest in coming to the USA?
Sure, are you paying?
Looks like we need to get a fund set up for Tom to come to the USA..
