Hopefully someone can help me solve this problem!
I'm trying to get IIS to work on my computer. I've followed the simple steps (add/remove windows components > IIS). I've checked it with the snap-in tool and it appears to be running. However, when I attempt to test it by "http://localhost/", I get nothing. I've troubleshooted every way I can think of and I'm hoping that someone here can possibly shine the light for me. BTW, I'm on XP Professional.

Go check your Services console
Is "world wide web publishing" running?
Any firewall etc that could block it?
Did you assign your default website to a location?
Did you remember to set the default document name?
Tried multiple browsers/cleared cache etc?
"I get nothing" is not a very easy problem to solve so I can only give you that list of possible problems... now if you had a error code or something it would be something else

Got it solved. It ended up being my firewall. Apparently, McAfee does not allow IIS to properly run even when you open up the port.
