could be a number of things, but the
http://your-ip is the correct way to do it.
If you are getting a "page not found" error it could be:
- the windows firewall blocks IIS by default I think.
- you didn't set the correct security settings for your web-site
- you mixed up internal and external IP (if you have a router set-up f.ex.)
If you are getting any other kind of error it's more likely you set up your default website and/or default page wrong, but that's not very likely.
(have seen installs of IIS that ignored requests for .asp and .aspx files tho... )

Also...
1. Verify that your site is set to use that ip (or any)
2. like ltl said, that it's a externally routable ip (not 192.168.x.x etc)

- no router so no need for the 192.168.x.x address.
I thought xp firewall was off... will have to check with it off and see.
